Janice Wright

Experience

Janice is recognized as one of Canada’s top trial lawyers. She practises in a broad range of complex civil, regulatory and cross-border litigation. Janice is consistently ranked as top counsel by Lexpert, Best Lawyers and Benchmark Canada. Most recently, she was invited to be a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America.

Janice routinely represents clients in high-stakes litigation. Many of her cases involve complicated fact scenarios and unique legal arguments. For example, she acted as lead counsel on one of Canada’s most prominent insider trading cases.

Janice has extensive experience dealing with securities regulators, including the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC), as well as the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC) and the Mutual Fund Dealers Association (MFDA), together now known as the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO). In addition to representing individual and institutional clients, Janice has been retained by regulatory bodies across the country to provide expert advice.

In addition to her securities law practice, Janice represents clients in corporate commercial and administrative law cases. Her previous cases include, for example: representing professionals on allegations of misconduct; representing a lead prosecutor in a law society investigation; representing a major financial institution in an oppression remedy case; representing a large public company during an investigation of fraud involving multiple civil lawsuits and regulatory proceedings. She has also advised clients in wrongful dismissal suits, contractual disputes, quasi-criminal matters, and directors’ and officers’ liability claims.

Janice’s opinion and experience are valued by her peers and regulatory authorities. She is frequently asked to provide input and feedback to both.

Early on in her career, Janice worked as Senior Policy Advisor to a federal Minister.

Before establishing Wright Temelini LLP in 2013, Janice practised at several major Canadian law firms.

Speaking

Janice has published numerous papers and speaks regularly at conferences, industry events, and faculty of law classes. She teaches trial advocacy skills to other lawyers.

Education

Janice has completed the Directors Education Program at the Rotman School of Management and earned the professional ICD.D designation.

Janice graduated from the University of Toronto as a gold medalist. She obtained her LL.B. from Queen’s Law School where she won various academic prizes.

Janice is a member of The Ontario Bar Association, The Canadian Bar Association, The Advocates’ Society, The Criminal Lawyers’ Association and The Toronto Lawyers’ Association. She is also a member of the Women’s White Collar Defense Association. She has sat on numerous not-for-profit boards and is a past Director of The Advocates’ Society.

Greg Temelini

Experience

Greg has represented clients at the Supreme Court of Canada, trial and appellate courts across Canada, regulatory bodies, and the World Trade Organization in Switzerland. Greg has also served as an adjudicator in an international panel under the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement.

As an experienced advocate, Greg litigates complex commercial cases involving novel issues. He represents a broad range of clients including governments, major financial institutions, large multi-national corporations, professional regulatory bodies, officers and directors, and various industry associations.

By way of example, Greg has represented a provincial government in an action alleging fraud and abuse of process. Greg has also represented various parties in an investigation by the Ontario Integrity Commissioner. Additionally, Greg has acted for the head of a provincial securities regulatory body in an action involving misfeasance in public office and issue estoppel. Greg also acted for the successful appellant in Antrim Truck Centre Ltd. v. Ministry of Transportation at the Supreme Court of Canada, a case which developed the tort of nuisance.

Greg routinely provides advice to clients in regulatory investigations, insider trading and other enforcement proceedings, and registration matters before financial regulatory bodies including the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC).

As part of his practice, Greg has developed an expertise in administrative law, judicial review and appellate advocacy. Greg has lectured and been published on these topics including in The Advocates’ Journal.

In addition to his litigation practice, Greg was recently appointed by the Canadian and U.S. governments as a panelist in a Binational Panel Review under the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement. Greg’s panel judicially reviewed a decision of the Canadian International Trade Tribunal.

Prior to founding Wright Temelini LLP, Greg was a partner at a downtown Toronto litigation boutique. Greg started his career as counsel for the Trade Law Bureau of the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade and litigated for Canada at the World Trade Organization in international disputes.

Speaking

Greg has chaired and instructed at numerous professional development programs including at the Law Society of Ontario and the Osgoode Hall Intensive Trial Advocacy Workshop.

Education

Greg graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School in the top ten percent of his class. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 2002. He earned an honours degree with distinction from Wilfrid Laurier University.
